About Us
We're a movement of developers, activists, and citizens demanding that government software should be publicly owned and transparent.
Our Mission
To ensure that software developed with public money in the United States is made openly available as Free and Open Source Software. We believe government software should be:
- 🔓 Open: Citizens can inspect the code that governs public services.
- 🛡️ Secure: Thousands of independent developers can audit and improve security.
- 💰 Efficient: Reusable across agencies, saving taxpayers billions.
- 🚀 Innovative: Public code attracts developers and entrepreneurs.
Why Now?
The pandemic exposed critical gaps in government technology. States spent billions building incompatible unemployment systems. Schools couldn't coordinate online learning. Agencies duplicated work instead of sharing solutions.
Europe is leading. Italy, France, and the EU are passing laws requiring public code. The rest of the world is watching. America can't fall behind on this.
Citizens are demanding change. From election security to vaccine distribution, people know government software is broken. This is the moment to fix it.
